Q: What systems will Ultra Mouse operate on?
A: Ultra Mouse will operate on any USB-equipped IBM compatible PC running Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP.
Q: What other systems will Ultra Mouse operate on?
A: The Ultra will work on Mac and NT4 with limited functionality. For NT4 systems, you will need a third party driver available from www.bsquare.com. For Mac systems, the Ultra mouse will operate without additional drivers.
Q: Why do I have to be logged in with Administrative rights to install my mouse with Windows 2000 or XP?
A: Without Administrative rights, the computer will not install all the drivers correctly and your device may not operate properly. Once the mouse has been installed under an account with Admin rights, you may log off and log in again using your standard account.
Q: Why do I have to re-synch the Ultra on every reboot?
A: The drivers in your device manager did not fully install. Check the Device Manager* for Errors (!) or Unknown devices (?). If any are present, reinstall or remove them. When reinstalling, have your Windows CD on-hand and be sure that you have sufficient rights to install/remove devices. If there are no errors and the unit still requires re-synch on reboot, you can reach Gyration's Technical Support team by phone at 1-888-340-0033 or by sending an e-mail to support@gyrationhelp.com. Please be sure to have your product on-hand when calling. * Your device manager is in your Control Panel under System.
Q: Where can I download Ultra drivers?
A: There are no special drivers required for standard mouse control. The Ultra is 100% plug and play and uses your standard Windows compatible mouse drivers.
Q: Will the Ultra work on my Mac?
A: Ultra will operate on any Mac OS with USB support. Note: With OS X, left and right buttons as well as scroll wheel are operational. The Ultra mouse uses your standard Mac drivers.
Q: My cursor moves too fast. . . can I slow it down?
A: The Ultra uses your standard Windows mouse driver. Any settings that are available to a standard desktop mouse are also available to the Ultra. Multiple factors will determine how you adjust your mouse to suit your preference including screen resolution, mouse driver version and overall personal preference. While becoming familiar with your Ultra mouse and getting a feel for the GyroPoint method of cursor control, Gyration recommends adjusting your mouse driver to the following settings: *Pointer Speed – Average. Some new users prefer this setting to be slightly slower than average. Advanced users will increase the speed so that less wrist movement gives them more screen coverage with the cursor. *Acceleration – Low or Off.
Q: How do I set 2 or more Ultras/GyroRemotes and/or Keyboards on one computer?
A: The Receiver can be taught to recognize up to eight devices (mice, remotes, keyboards, etc.) on a system, but only two of those devices may be used simultaneously. When setting up a system with a single receiver and three or more devices, the following guidelines must be followed: *If setting up more than one mouse on your receiver, the mice must be on the same channel in order to function.
*Select two channels that are free of outside interference and install all devices on either of those two channels. When possible, it is recommended that the two chosen channels be separated by at least one unused channel.
*Any of the devices installed on one channel may be used simultaneously with any of the devices on the other channel. Two devices that share a channel may not be used simultaneously. When installing the devices try to determine which devices will be used simultaneously and set them on opposite channels. The following example describes a single-receiver system with two mice and a keyboard that requires one mouse to be used by a presenter for cursor control while another presenter inputs data on the keyboard. Mouse#1 is set to channel 3 and the keyboard and mouse#2 are set to channel 5. With this configuration, mouse#1 and the keyboard can be used simultaneously, but mouse#2 and the keyboard cannot.
Q: Can I use the pointer without having to hold the activate button with my finger?
A: The cursor can be placed in active mode by double-clicking the Activate trigger. The cursor will now follow your hand movements. A single click on the Activate trigger will return the cursor to on-demand mode.
Q: How do I configure my right mouse button to go to a previous slide in PowerPoint?
A: In PowerPoint 2000, go to the Tools menu in the main menu bar and select Options. Under the View tab, go to the Slide show section and uncheck the box labeled "Popup menu on right mouse click."
Q: My Ultra mouse is not tracking properly. What could be causing this?
A: As with any optical device, there are a number of factors that could contribute to improper tracking. Optical technology uses sensors to determine the relative position of the mouse and these sensors offer more precise mouse movement and eliminate the need to clean dirt and grime build-up that is typical with ball-based mice. Using an optical sensor mouse means you can use the mouse on almost any surface. Surface Issues The mousing surface you use plays an important role in the effective use of your mouse. The optical sensor uses the pattern on the surface to track the position of the cursor. Using the mouse on a glass or see-through surface will inhibit the ability of the sensor to track the cursor properly. Also, if using the mouse on a highly reflective surface (i.e. a shiny or mirrored surface) you may also experience tracking problems. Instead, use the mouse on a non-reflective flat surface or sheet of paper. (Using the mouse on a white sheet of paper may also lengthen battery life.) Other surfaces that have been known to cause tracking problems include wood grain surfaces, surfaces with grooves and surfaces with text or graphics. Cordless RF Issues Other variables that may affect the tracking of your Ultra mouse:
**Interference with other electrical products: Other electrical devices may interfere with RF signals that the mouse uses to communicate with the receiver. Try relocating the receiver to a different location, away from the monitor, computer towers and/or other electrical devices. **Batteries: Battery life can sometimes affect tracking performance. You may want to recharge the batteries in your mouse (or insert new batteries if you are using the alkaline battery pack). **Receiver range: The Ultra mouse has a range of 25-ft. and the Ultra Professional mouse has a range of 100-ft. Your mouse will work best when operated within these specified ranges.
Q: I'm getting the following error message when I try to install my mouse: "Cannot Install Hardware. An Error Occurred During the Installation of the Device." What do I do?
A: You may encounter this error message if you've recently upgraded your computer to Windows XP. Click here for more information.
Q: I restarted my computer in MS-DOS mode and now my mouse doesn't work. How can I fix this?
A: If you are running Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, click here for more information.
Q: Windows displays "mouse not detected" message on boot up and will not finish loading Windows. How can I resolve this?
A: This error will display for the following reasons: 1) your computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is configured to query the PS/2 port to detect an input device during the Microsoft Windows startup sequence; 2) there is no pointing device connected to the PS/2 port in your computer. To resolve this issue, disable the option to query the PS/2 port in your computer's BIOS. Or enable the USB Legacy support (if a built in) within your BIOS. For information about how to do this, consult the documentation provided with your computer, or contact your computer manufacturer. Otherwise you may have to leave your PS/2 mouse/keyboard connected.
