RF Keyboards FAQ

Q: What operating systems will the keyboard operate on?
A: The keyboard will operate on any USB-equipped IBM compatible PC running Windows 98SE*, 2000, ME and XP. *Limited functionality on Windows 98SE. Media keys are not operational.

Q: What other operating systems will the keyboard operate on?
A: The keyboard will work on Mac and NT4 with limited functionality. For NT4 systems, you will need a third party driver available from www.bsquare.com. For Mac systems, the keyboard will operate without additional drivers. Note: Media keys are not functional on Mac and NT4 systems.

Q: Why do I have to be logged in with Administrative rights to install my keyboard with Windows 2000 or XP?
A: Without Administrative rights, the computer will not install all the drivers correctly and your device may not operate properly. Once the keyboard has been installed under an account with Admin rights, you may log off and log in again using your standard account.

Q: I am running Windows 2000 or XP. Why aren't the media keys on my keyboard responding?
A: A1. If you did not install the device with Administrative rights, the computer may not have installed all the necessary drivers for the media keys. Remove the device from your system and log in with Admin rights. Next, reinstall the device to allow all the drivers to install correctly. Once installed, "Guest" accounts may access these functions as well. A2. Make sure you do not have any non-Gyration keyboard software running. If you do, uninstall or disable.

Q: Can I use my GyroMouse receiver to operate my keyboard?
A: No, the keyboard and GyroMouse operate off separate receivers.

Q: Sometimes when I use my GyroMouse and keyboard at the same time, my GyroMouse stops working or moves erratically. What's causing this?
A: The RF signals could be crossing, causing interference. Relocate the GyroMouse and Keyboard receivers as far apart as possible (at least 2-ft. apart). You can also try changing the frequency on your mouse to find a clearer channel.

Q: Can the media keys be programmed for different functions?
A: No, the media keys are preprogrammed to function without additional drivers with your default programs assigned for the appropriate keys. The keys are not reprogrammable.

Q: Can the keyboard receiver be connected to any port other than my USB port?
A: No, the receiver was built to operate on a USB port only. Adapters or switches cannot be used.

Q: Why do I have to re-synch the Keyboard on every reboot?
A: The drivers in your device manager did not fully install. Check the Device Manager* for Errors(!) or Unknown devices(?). If any are present, reinstall or remove them. When reinstalling, have your Windows CD on-hand and be sure that you have sufficient rights to install/remove devices. If there are no errors and the unit still requires re-synch on reboot you can reach Gyration's Technical Support team by phone at 1-888-340-0033 or by sending an e-mail to support@gyrationhelp.com. Please be sure to have your product on-hand when calling. *Your device manager is in your Control Panel under System.

Q: How do I set 3 or more Keyboards and/or GyroRemotes on one computer?
A: The Receiver can be taught to recognize up to eight devices (remotes, keyboards, etc.) on a system, but only two of those devices may be used simultaneously. When setting up a system with a single receiver and three or more devices, the following guidelines must be followed: **Select two channels that are free of outside interference and install all devices on either of those two channels. When possible, it is recommended that the two chosen channels be separated by at least one unused channel. **Any of the devices installed on one channel may be used simultaneously with any of the devices on the other channel. Two devices that share a channel may not be used simultaneously. When installing the devices try to determine which devices will be used simultaneously and set them on opposite channels. The following example describes a single-receiver system with two remotes and a keyboard that requires one remote to be used by a presenter for cursor control while another presenter inputs data on the keyboard. Remote #1 is set to channel 3 and the keyboard and remote #2 are set to channel 5. With this configuration, remote #1 and the keyboard can be used simultaneously, but remote #2 and the keyboard cannot.

Q: I'm getting the following error message when I try to install my keyboard: "Cannot Install Hardware. An Error Occurred During the Installation of the Device." What do I do?
A: You may encounter this error message if you've recently upgraded your computer to Windows XP. Click here for more information.

Q: How do I use the blue numeric keys (10-key)?
A: Make sure Num Lock is enabled. Hold down the blue Fn (Function) key while pressing the blue numeric keys.

Q: I restarted my computer in MS-DOS mode and now my keyboard doesn't work. How can I fix this?
A: If you are running Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition, click here for more information.

Q: Windows displays "mouse not detected" message on boot up and will not finish loading Windows. How can I resolve this?
A: This error will display for the following reasons: 1) your computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is configured to query the PS/2 port to detect an input device during the Microsoft Windows startup sequence; 2) there is no pointing device connected to the PS/2 port in your computer. To resolve this issue, disable the option to query the PS/2 port in your computer's BIOS. Or enable the USB Legacy support (if a built in) within your BIOS. For information about how to do this, consult the documentation provided with your computer, or contact your computer manufacturer. Otherwise you may have to leave your PS/2 mouse/keyboard connected.
