Gyration Air Music Remote volume control 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I just purchased a Gyration Air Music Remote for my Media Center machine but and having a small issue with volume control. In order to make the volume go up or down, I have to press the buttons over and over ... instead of simply pressing down once and letting it automatically lower or rise. Any ideas what is causing this? Any fixes?

Also, is there any way to extend the remotes range? I would like to use it my backyard but the range gets lessened do to my homes walls.

Thanks!

Hi Alex,
Unfortunately this is one of the oddities of the Gyration Remote. In its normal state it will only increment/decrement the volume by 1 step when you push the button. This is a limitation of the device. The arrow keys work the same way moving up/down, left or right one location per button press.

Regarding your will to extend the range, the Gyration product is specified to work “up to 100 feet (30.4 meters)”, as indicated in our literature. During test in an open range environment we always meet and commonly exceed the maximum range specified (100ft or 30.4m).
In office environments many other variable come in to play. Walls, cubicles, normal office equipment, furniture, etc. can and often do effect the radio signal, thus effectively reducing the transmitter range. Even building construction and layout can cause these effects. So basically the general environment and not a particular obstruction is causing the reduction in range. Due to unknown and variable environmental conditions we cannot guarantee that the device will always meet the maximum range specified. You can improve performance by using an USB extension cable and repositioning the receiver to optimize radio performance.

The strange thing is, I recently installed our Gyrationtool Software from your website. It found an auto update specifically addressing volume control. I let it install, and then the volume started working like I wanted. Though, a day later, it randomly stopped working and I had to go back to individual clicks to change the volume and scroll menus.

When it was working, the blue activity light on the remote (showing that a signal is being sent out) would be continuously on when I pressed the button down. It would not go off until I let go of the button. This allowed the buttons to work correctly. Though, when it stopped working, I noticed the blue light would go off immediately after being pressed, even if I kept it pressed down.

So, it seems you guys can find a working solution. You just need to tweak your driver to ensure that when the button is pressed down, it keeps sending a signal until you unpress it.

Make sense? Please let me know if I can be of any help. This is a big problem for me, as I feel it is a necessity in any remote control. This has been a standard ever since remote controls came out in the beginning.

mmmhmm. Again im no expert lolz but if your software is being finnicky than you should first try restarting your computer. I didnt catch if you were trying to raise or lower the volume on the TV or your computer itself. I assume its the computer cuz ur talkin about gyro tools. Open up your gyro tools menu and see if you can tweak the settings. I'm using a gyro mouse and when i want to save a setting i have to save it to my profile or account. It should be under profiles. Hope i helped a little.
